Los Angeles Firemen oppose forced integration report
A five firemen committee representing about 68 percent of the Los Angeles fire force asks the fire commission to reject forced integration of Negro and white firefighters. Mayor Norris Poulson seeks immediate action to integrate at least some stations, while the committee urges gradual, education based acceptance and cautions against morale and efficiency losses from forced mixing. The panel cites a nationwide survey and notes unease in several departments.
