Mine blast hurls stern of Redstart as Korean waters bombarded
The minesweeper Redstart reports its stern was thrown 15 feet into the air by a mine detonation in Korean waters. Under Lt. Carl W. Coe and Lt. William Cohee the crew bombarded shore positions 20 times, dodging enemy batteries and Russian mines. The skipper earns Legion of Merit and Bronze Star. executive officer slated for presidential commendation.

Santa Fe Avenue Rezoning Moves Forward
City Council gave first reading to an ordinance rezoning one block on the east side of Santa Fe Avenue between 33rd Street and Wardlow Road from R-4 multifamily use to C-2 light business. A small area north of West Seventh Street next to the Los Angeles River would switch from C-3 light business to M-1 industrial use.

Harbor Department Drops Right of Way Agent Post
City attorney drafted an amendment to remove the right of way agent from the harbor salary ordinance. Arbor Day Fete at Wardlow Park Scheduled
Wardlow County Park in Lakewood will observe Arbor Day and the park’s second anniversary with a Saturday tree planting ceremony and picnic.
