Senate Group Scraps Boost in Liquor Levy
A California Senate Revenue and Taxation Committee killed a pair of bills proposed by Assemblyman Marvin Sherwin to cut state income taxes by 17.25 million dollars and raise beer and liquor taxes. The plan would have exempted 800,000 filers from income taxes, saving about 14 dollars per taxpayer, while increasing beer taxes from two to four cents per gallon and liquor from 80 cents to 1.50 dollars. The committee, with eight members present, voiced no objections and tabled the measures.

Mystery Ice Bomb Fell on Long Beach City Streets
Investigators suspect a high flying B 66 dropped ice chunks onto Long Beach Thursday. About 50 pieces, some weighing up to 150 pounds, struck the 1400 and 2500 blocks of American Avenue. Two cars were dented and many bystanders were endangered, but no injuries were reported.

In Oakland 25 year old plasterer Daniel Egan surrendered with attorney Rupert Crittenden at 11 30 am after being booked on murder investigations. Police say his wife Mrs Figan Egan was found shot dead in a late model sedan with two .32 caliber bullets in the right breast. The couple wed last August in Reno and faced a May Alameda divorce filing. she was pregnant and sought support.

New Ice Bombing Reported by Housewife
A second ice bombing was reported in Long Beach by Mrs. Gilbert Smith who found a seven inch ice chunk in her yard while answering a telephone call. Two planes flew Maine to Fairford 5120 miles in 5 hours 36 minutes and another in 5 hours 3 minutes. The earlier record was 5 hours 38 minutes. The flight averaged 366 miles per hour. The 306th Wing plans mass flights from Florida to England with 15 planes airborne. Each crewed by three veterans, the jets carried dummy atomic bombs for training.
