Pile of State Duties Tackled by Stevenson
SPRINGFIELD WI July 29 AP Gov Adlai Stevenson began cleaning up his estate executive duties after a rousing homecoming for the Democratic Presidential nominee. Telegrams and correspondence awaited at the executive mansion as he faced political chores before his national campaign. He called the task formidable at the Sahgamon County courthouse lawn where Lincoln warned against a house divided. About 25 000 people greeted him in a hero s welcome near the Gulf Mobile and Ohio station area. He thanked supporters and noted his heart was not light but he would strive to live up to the spirit of goodwill. His whistlestop tour included stops at Bloomington and along an 180 mile route to the state capital, with crowds awaiting glimpses of the governor. A nurse from his childhood presented him a floral horseshoe.
