Tokyo February 17 United Nations accepted with qualifications the Communist plan for a postwar Korean peace conference but insisted talks be confined to Korean problems The Allies rejected Russia as a neutral police for the armistice and accepted Poland and Czechoslovakia as UN six nation commission members The negotiation leader Joy noted the UN’s acceptance of the plan but set conditions insisting the peace conference cover only Korean issues and define foreign troop withdrawals as non Korean forces The Reds pressed for broader Far Eastern discussion and sought a longer recess for study of replies before resuming talks with Nam Il leading the North Korean delegation The day ended with adjournment until morning and staff officers meeting on armistice supervision and POW exchanges
