North American Aviation workers in Fresno and Columbus voted overwhelmingly to approve a union management agreement. Plot to Kidnap Kid Gavilan Foiled in Havana

Alerta reported three men attempted to kidnap world welterweight champion Kid Gavilan as he left a Havana theater. One suspect was arrested. two others sought. Minor quake jars Kern County area early today

A minor earthquake rattled parts of southeastern Kern County early today. The quake was felt in Lombant Weedpatch Arvin areas. Bakersfield sheriff reported no calls or damage from residents.

Freed man returns to wife after long prison term

Emg T. Watson, 51, freed by Circuit Judge Edward F. Barnes after nearly 20 years for a $10 burglary at a New Athens store on November 27, 1933. The court ruled the indeterminate sentence far harsher than the crime warranted. Watson, in court, vowed to be a good citizen and left to join his wife in Mount Vernon, Illinois.

Baldy Fire Grips Mt Baldy Area With 1800 Acres Burned

A large brush fire raged along a six mile front in the Mt Baldy region of the Angeles National Forest. Fire authorities reported 1800 acres burned with a nine mile perimeter and could not predict containment before late Friday. Windy conditions drove flames toward Stoddard Canyon threatening cabins as 500 firefighters fought the blaze from Cucamonga Canyon.

Rat Pack Terrorizes Couple at San Pedro

A gang of four terrorized a service station attendant Virgil Prince and his wife Dolores at a San Pedro station on Normaliin Dr before police arrived. Prince said the attackers, wild-eyed youths, took gasoline and forced the couple to hide inside the office as they rampaged. Prince, 28, and his wife were terrified as the suspects fled after being confronted.

Robert Bristol, 38, said four youths with a knife accosted him on a street. He offered to buy them food, refused money, and fought back when stabbed, breaking one assailant's wrist. He then walked to Mickey Flanagan Club to teach, saying he regretted injuring the youths but had no choice.

Two Killed in Plunge of Elevator

In Kansas City garment firm incident, an elevator carrying five plunged four stories. Two women died and five were injured. A two ton counterweight crushed the car as it fell, trapping victims in the wreckage. Names given include Sophia Jamieson, 44, Kansas City, and Carolyn Meadems, 42, Liberty, Missouri. A 17-year-old boy involved fled and was later located.
