Rat Pack Gang Kills L A Man

A Los Angeles street attack left 22 year old Ramon Pacheco dead and a 67 year old beaten. Police linked the violence to a roaming Rat Pack gang with youths seen fleeing an alley near a service station. A witness reported a dance altercation before the death and two other youths sought for an attack and taxi robbery downtown.

Long Beach recorded 89 degrees on Sunday, a local daily high and just shy of the all time December peak set on December 3, 1940. The Weather Bureau predicted continued warmth through Tuesday with lows in the 80s across nearby cities including Newport Beach 88 and Santa Ana 87.

Launch Capsizes Off Hampton Roads With 73 Aboard

A 50 foot Navy launch carrying 73 sailors capsized in choppy Hamp ton Roads waters off the Naval Base piers. The rescue ship Kittiwake saved 55, the carrier Franklin D Roosevelt took several, others were picked up by nearby vessels. Two hours later a Fifth Naval District spokesman said it is believed all hands were rescued.

Baldy Fire Roars Out of Control Near Camp Baldy

A wildfire in Cucamonga Canyon blasted across more than 1200 acres in the San Gabriel Mountains with flames leaping over 200 feet high. Supervisor William Mendenhall warns NW winds could hinder containment through Wednesday as 400 firefighters, including Mexican nationals and prisoners, battle the blaze threatening 86 cabins and Portola area. The fire, likely lit by a cigarette, has produced a 50 mile smoke plume and remains active near Barret Canyon.

Man Shot by Hunters Left in Shack to Die

A cranberry bog worker, Benjamin De Silva, says he was shot three times by hunters who mistook him for a deer. He lay in his shack for three days before a visitor found him and alerted villagers. He was rushed to St Luke's Hospital in danger but is now improving and has a good chance of recovery.
