Solons Claim Counties Lax on Desertions
Sacramento report by the Senate Interim Committee on Social Welfare denounces lax county enforcement of paternity in Aid to Needy Children cases. It cites a 213 percent rise in ANC costs from 1948-49 to 1954-55, with 53,471 families and 133,851 children aided. Only 11 percent of fathers paid support. 43,000 deserted their families. The eight counties studied show varied standards and little DA action in 56 percent of cases.
