Senate eyes 39 week jobless pay limit
The Senate moved to cut unemployment benefits from 65 to 39 weeks and shift costs to state and local governments for nearly 8 million workers. The measure, part of a broader reform to the federal state program covering 68 million Americans, would raise employers taxes to trim an 11 billion dollar deficit and await House conference action. A Javits proposal to restore 52 weeks failed 53 to 27. Also noted is George Harrison saying he is astonished by a 10 million dollar A&M suit over a contract dispute.
