Heavy rains threaten Lompoc Santa Ynez crops

Lompoc and Santa Ynez Valleys received heavy rainfall leveling crops and triggering near disaster losses. Tomatoes hay beans and flowers sustained heavy damage with estimates topping a million dollars in the Santa Ynez Valley. Grape crops faces initial 25 percent loss. bean crops may be wiped out in some areas. Officials consider possible disaster designation for farmer relief.

School board forms landmark district education survey panel

The Lompoc Unified School District formed a 14 week task force to identify educational needs and goals with 17 facilities contributing input. Robert Thompson chairs the group with Gail Steiger, Judy Goard, Don Adams, Earl Sweetland and others helping. Barbara Berg to serve as alternate.
