Controversial sewer plan stirs county planning process

The County Cities Area Planning Council backs a sewer and water element into its general plan though not yet approved by the county Planning Commission or Board of Supervisors. Suspect Sought in Painted Cave Fire Near Mountain Community

Forest Service officials say a suspect is being sought in the Painted Cave fire north of a mountain community. An auto description of a car near the fire is noted, but no name or charges are released. A red Mustang report in the area was traced to a Ventura owner who is not involved. A separate Paradise Canyon fire burned 1800 acres but a suspect has not been charged due to lack of a solid case.

Multiple Theft and Incident Reports Across Local Areas

Daily Record reports thefts totaling hundreds of dollars from residences and campers including Jack Sterling’s 528 N. H St location with about 200 in gear. School board approves bus purchases and campus programs

The board discussed buying two buses of different sizes and noted bids. They approved $800 for UCLA IDEA program membership and reported enrollment of 13,328 students. Leases for adult education at Vandenberg AFB were canceled and alternate quarters leased. A student teaching agreement with Chapman College was approved. An executive session followed with no public action.

Nixon promises POWs will be freed eventually

President Nixon, in a surprise appearance before the National League of Families, pledged that American prisoners and missing servicemen will eventually be freed.
