School board approves program additions amid debate

The Lompoc school board approved a $254000 package of program additions and modifications after a staff audience of 45 raised questions. The plan includes 14 library aides, three roving librarians, remedial reading enhancements, more field trips, two new buses, released time for conferences, and funding for supplies and consultant services.

OSO 7, a 1400-pound sunwatching satellite valued at 36 million dollars, started in a 345 mile plan but entered an elliptical path between 266 and 355 miles. Engineers at Greenbelt MD worked to reorient the craft using small jets to recover accurate solar observations and salvage the mission.
