Polluters tighten rules as hearing continues on backyard burning ban

County Air Pollution Control District directors extended the public hearing on proposed rules aimed at a near total ban on backyard burning, with state regulations to take effect December 31 and local enforcement to begin next year. The panel plans a Sept. hearing and a three-member appeals board, while ranchers face restrictions on burning old trees and brush. Fire chiefs say uniform enforcement will proceed.

Small La Habra Quake Shakes Orange County Area

A 2.8 magnitude earthquake jolted Orange County Monday night with no damage reported. The temblor originated near Whittier La Habra, felt in Orange Buena Park Anaheim Fullerton and surrounding areas, at 8:53 p.m. lasting about five seconds.
