Hospital district backs acute care role over nursing home
Directors of the Lompoc Hospital District approved a 4-0 resolution with one abstention stating the district will confine its activity to acute hospital services. They oppose providing extended care and custodial nursing home services unless another community facility offers acceptable care, warning they would quit the service to avoid duplication. The district favors continuing current nursing home care only if no other provider exists. Separately, 2000 Firestone workers returned in Accra after a 40 day strike, and Typhoon Elsie battered Okinawa with 118 mph winds as storms threaten China and Japan.
