California Legislature faces another bitter Senate leadership fight

The Legislature cut a five percent CHP pay raise to three percent with a 37 to 9 vote. Jan reconvenes threaten renewed contest to Sen. Schrade as Way and Burgener backers plot. Burns and Colwig retire, Behr likely to replace McCarthy, Brutschigi to back Schrade, Zenovich to replace Burns.

Daily Records WINNER Michael McDonald Prize Winner

Michael McDonald age 13, son of Mr and Mrs Edward McDonald of 534 N E Street, won the Realtone Radio Phonograph combination from the Lompoc Record circulation department. Next prize is a three speed bicycle with hand brakes. Neighborhood Council meets Thursday at 7 30 p m at Community Building 217 West Maple. Burns Unruh Close Out California Legislature Careers

In Sacramento Hugh M Burns, Senate leader for 34 years, adjourned the 1970 session marking the end of his legislative career. Jess Unruh, ex‑Assembly speaker, failed to pass a single bill this year and then attended a fundraiser after a final floor fight.
