Barristers Club and Bar Association Propose Isla Vista Disorder Plan

A Santa Barbara County Bar Association and Barristers Club report urges a comprehensive plan for UCSB Isla Vista crises. It calls for lawful arrests, expeditious procedures, due process, and community trust, avoiding curfews and mass detention where possible. It notes existing separate plans and anticipates an attorney general study soon.

Navy Graduate Jerry L. Withrow Heads to Commissary Stewards School

Seaman Jerry L. Withrow son of Mr and Mrs Bill Withrow of Lompoc graduates from the Naval Recruit Training Center San Diego after which he will take a two week leave at home before attending commissary stewards school in San Diego. TSgt Harold O Potter leaves Travis AFB for a one year tour in Udorn Thailand after four years with the Titan IIIB program at Vandenberg AFB. A 1572 foot television antenna near Oklahoma City is 100 feet taller than the Empire State Building plus its 222 foot antenna.

Supervisors OK 760000 in District Notes for Schools

The Board of Supervisors approved eight notes totaling 760000 to fund current expenses for Goleta Union and Solvang School Districts at the start of the new school year, pending county tax receipts. Seven Goleta notes total 700000 at 4.34 percent interest. Solvang issues 60000 at 62 percent.

Lompoc group hears on conservation and highways clash

Senator Robert Lagomarsino addressed the Citizens for the Preservation of Lompoc Surroundings praising citizen victories over freeway plans including Ward Memorial Freeway and Malibu Canyon Freeway removal from state system. The group opposes Harris Grade highway, citing Bishop Pine stands and grey squirrels. The meeting featured Dee Sudbury’s Bishop Pine Summit, jet noise concerns near Vandenberg AFB, and a $6 annual join. Youth Ecology Action sought recycling aid, with phone contacts for volunteering after 5 pm.

Ballot Too Small For School Bond And Board Race

County Clerk J E Lewis announced the November ballot cannot fit the Santa Maria High School Districts 5.6 million bond issue or the Goleta Union School District board election. Separate ballots will be mailed for these two issues. Voters will also decide a rezoning referendum for El Capitan Ranch and whether to extend the civil service merit system. This marks the first time ballot size fails to cover all items.

Abeyta Guilty in Series of Misdemeanor Thefts

Richard Abeyta, 19, of 610 NEPL, must spend 12 months in County Jail after pleading guilty to three misdemeanor theft charges stemming from incidents on May 6 July 6 and Sept 7. Each charge carried six month terms. one run concurrently with the others.
