After seven years of study the Senate Labor Committee opened debate on bills to set minimum federal standards for private industry pension plans. Proposals include vesting rights, funding requirements, portable pensions, and a government insurance plan to cover failed plans.
Col. Walter A. Carter will address Lompoc Chamber members at the Valley Club noon luncheon about Vandenberg Air Force Base's economic impact. The talk marks the first formal regional statement since 1970 on the base's regional economic wake. Mike Henderson receives a Japanese letter translated by Mary at the J-M Cafe.

A committee will propose measures restricting beach access and cite trespass laws, with Sheriff Carpenter and District Attorney Milner urging action.
