Oktoberfest to be sponsored by Solvang Danish Lodges
The Danish Brotherhood and Sisterhood Lodges of Solvang will sponsor an Oktoberfest on Saturday Oct 29 at the Veterans Memorial Building in Solvang. Tickets are 7 dollars per person with cocktails at 6 30 and dinner at 7 30. Werner Klempner and his German band will provide dancing. Horse trails promoted in Santa Ynez Valley
The Valley chapter of Equestrian Trails led by Bob Crowe seeks authorized riding trails beyond highways. Crowe notes the county general plan may include street trails and proposes an arena near Santa Ynez Park for youth riding and local shows. He suggests donated easements and CCC maintenance to enable off road trails across Ballard, Santa Ynez, Solvang and Los Olivos.

Merrill was chosen president and Steven Lykken vice president of the Santa Ynez Valley High School Building Corp at an organizational meeting. Merrill succeeds Dr. Louis Busony, who led the board the past two years. The board, formed to oversee a 2.18 million loan from the Farmers Home Administration for campus expansion, includes a completed gym theater and vocational shop complex. An auditor’s report was accepted with praise for accuracy and financial management.

Garden House Organ Workshop announces music instruction
Garden House and Ruth Williams sponsor an Organ Workshop on popular music held three consecutive Wednesdays at 11 am starting next week. Plans to raise Buellton water and sewer rates will be discussed at a Wednesday board meeting at 8 pm. The district says current rates since October 1974 are among the county’s lowest. SMID approves two position papers on water and sewer
SMID directors vote to forward two position papers to the Solvang Business Association. One opposes state water subscription and favors handling supplemental water by Improvement District No. 1. The other defends SMID against a critical editorial and calls for cooperation with SYCSD. The meeting also covers a progress report on emergency well drilling and a 48 unit Solvang condo water and sewer commitment.

Principal notes looming college and aid deadlines
Manuel J. Silva, principal of Santa Ynez Valley High School, outlined November deadlines for four year state colleges and universities and for financial aid. Independent colleges vary, two year community college deadlines come in spring, and many students need aid beyond family resources. Forms become available December 1 and must be submitted by February 1 1978 with 1977 tax info. SAT must be by December 3 with Oct 28 registration for Cal Grant eligibility.
