Communist Forces Withdraw After Heavy Mekong Delta Battle
In the Mekong Delta near U Minh Forest of Darkness 47 South Vietnamese soldiers were killed and 97 wounded after three large assaults by Communist forces. US airpower artillery and a 7th Fleet destroyer repelled the attack. 91 Communist troops were found dead. Separate actions near the DMZ and along the Ho Chi Minh Trail saw US jets bomb an antiaircraft site while Saigon faced additional arson attacks on vehicles.
