Santa Ynez Valley advisory committee held a Tuesday night meeting in Solvang to discuss a proposed circulation plan. County Planning Commissioner Stanley Radom urged subcommittee members to arrive with ideas and opinions for study.
Santa Ynez Valley Airport received FAA approval Tuesday for operation of charter flights a first for the facility. The Air Taxi and Commercial Operators Certificate was issued to Dave Smith after on site inspection. The certificate allows charter flights within the continental United States and Smith plans to expand cautiously.
Delbert and Gunhild Jepsen were named grand marshals for the Danish Days parade, with a combined 53 years of festival service. Delbert, a painting contractor, joined Danish Days in 1952 and chaired the breakfast team for 20 years. Gunhild, from the Santa Ynez Valley dairy family, first performed as a gymnast 33 years ago and now helps bake Aebleskiver.
The Tri-Counties Commission planning and allocations committee recommended 20697 for the Santa Ynez Valley Senior Foundation to provide nutritional services, but the board tabled the item for further review after clashes over duplication with the CAC's senior meals program. The discussion noted CAC uses Santa Ynez Valley High School facilities for 23 meals daily and seeks 171191 to cover current county expenses.
Solvang Municipal Improvement District directors reaffirmed a no parking any time zone on the south side of Mission Drive from Alisal road to the Security Pacific National Bank lot exit citing public safety concerns due to sight distance restrictions. A Danish Days weekend note adds that authors of Of Danish Ways will sign copies at the Book Loft after the parade on Saturday.
Six former planning and zoning committee members now on the Santa Ynez Valley Advisory Committee were served summonses and complaint copies in a $900,000 damage action filed last week in US District Court. Plaintiffs Hastings Harbor, Wall Street Development, Inc., and others accuse the county and boards of downzoning valley land. Defendants include Edward W. Grand, Willie Chamberlin, George Dukes, Edward Plant, Doree Webb, and the six served at Solvang Tuesday night.
A 24 car vintage parade group from the Santa Barbara region of the Antique Automobile Club of America will make a pre noon whistle stop in Santa Ynez before appearing in Solvang's Danish Days parade. Dignitaries Rep. Robert Lagomarsino and Sheriff John D. Carpenter will join. There is a Friday gala ball at the Veterans Memorial Building with no admission charge and dancing to the Bardelli group.
