Raises and benefits okayed for Lompoc school staff

The Lompoc Unified School District board approved higher wages and benefits for non bargaining unit staff. Certificated management will have a 5.9 percent total rise in salary and benefits, consisting of a 5.2 percent wage hike and a $250 increase in health and welfare payments. The group includes the Superintendent, two Assistant Superintendents, the Business Manager, and directors of Student Services, Curriculum, and Special Education.

Jaworski panel meets on probe and Seoul visit

Leon Jaworski and the House Ethics Committee held a surprise closed session to discuss recent developments in the South Korean influence buying probe. Jaworski said he would address the panel in executive session, with possible plans to visit Seoul if cooperation from Tongsan Park is assured. The report also notes district salary increases for classified staff, substitute raises, and a total compensation cost of 121 500 dollars. Weather shows clouds with late clearing and highs in the upper 60s to low 70s.

Two killed and two injured in separate traffic crashes

Two people died and two were injured in two one car accidents last night. Louise Lamberson, 31, currently in critical condition at Goleta Valley Hospital, rode with Irene Garner, 28, who was cited for possible felony drunken driving after their Highway 246 crash. In the second crash, Everett Hayes Jr., 28, died at the scene when his car plunged down a 125-foot embankment on Highway 1 near Jalama Road. the other driver, 24, died at Lompoc District Hospital. Funeral services for both victims are pending.

Inmate Attacked at Lompoc FCI Leaves One Stable

A 23 year old inmate at FCI Lompoc is in stable condition at Vandenberg AFB Hospital after an early morning cell assault. The 23 year old, jailed for heroin possession, suffered lacerations and may have unknown weapon use. The FBI leads the case as a second stabbing in a week at the facility.
