County sets Sept 30 hearing on air quality standards
County supervisors scheduled a public hearing for Sept 30 to consider higher air quality standards for South Coastal and north county areas. Supervisor Curtis Tunnell opposed applying the same rules north and south, citing ocean winds. John English of the Air Pollution Control Dept noted state officials reversed position and warned of potential grant loss if county ignores the state proposal. The board rescinded approval pending the Sept 30 hearing, and agreed with state officials to align local episode criteria with the state emergency plan in effect Sept 1.
