Local high school scrimmages kickoff new season in Lompoc Valley

With seven days to go until opening games Cabrillo visits Camarillo High at 10 a.m. and Lompoc hosts Santa Clara High at 11 a.m. at Huyck Stadium marking the maiden season of the Northern League and a wave of top prep talent highlighted by Letterman Magazine selections.

Five hardship players chosen in NBA supplementary draft

Nate Williams, a 6 5 swingman from Utah State, was the first of five hardship cases selected by NBA teams. He was picked by the Cincinnati Royals after Cleveland Buffalo and Portland passed him over. The Atlanta Hawks chose Troot-2 Thomas Payne, the second selection, a Kentucky Junior who would be the first black player for that school.
