Lompoc Valley saw few crashes as Labor Day weekend began with national police warnings of 570 to 670 traffic deaths. A panel truck rollover on Central Avenue left the driver uninjured and a small car crash near Buellton also reported no injuries.

LEA representatives reportedly voted to reject the school board salary package and redirect the 3.5 percent raise to fund 39 new teachers including 14 phys ed 7 music 7 art and 11 librarians, mostly at the elementary level. The move follows a prior rejection and remains uncertain how funds shift.

Deputies Bust Vandenberg Village Party Chief Arrested

Sheritt's deputies used a search warrant at 3786 Uranus Ave in Vandenberg Village to break up a house party. LeRoy Wilford Hughey, 39, was arrested for contributing to the delinquency of minors and jailed in Lompoc with bail set at 625 dollars. Inside the home 20 or more teens and young adults were found. a 11 year old was among the group while beer cans littered every room.

Commies Overrun Civil Defense Training Center Near Qui Nhon

Communist commandos attacked a civil defense training center near Qui Nhon, killing at least 15 and wounding 23 civilians. Sappers used satchel charges in predawn hours, while regional militiamen and popular forces repelled the attackers. one assailant was killed. Police removed about 300 shoddily built structures by disabled veterans.
