Allies report battle in Cambodian territory amid air crash toll

UPI reports the first acknowledgment that Allied troops fought Communist forces inside Cambodia after a US helicopter landed under fire near the frontier. Five aboard survived, two Communist soldiers were killed, and a captured AK47 was taken. The week saw 185 Americans killed in Vietnam, along with hundreds wounded and ongoing air and ground clashes across Saigon and Hue regions.

Students Clash With Road Chief Over Isla Vista Trees

Board orders Raymond D. Johnson to study a dispute between County Road Commissioner Leland Steward, students, merchants, and property owners in Isla Vista after more than 200 trees along El Colegio Road were cut down. The timing and motives are disputed as the four lane widening project nears next July.

California approves campus violence bills signed by Reagan

Gov Ronald Reagan signed two major campus disturbance bills to empower administrators to remove disorderly students and bar or suspend those involved. The Murphy bill imposes fines and possible jail for defying orders and allows 3 day campus bans. The Stall bill allows cancellation of state aid for students convicted of riot related crimes and 10 day interim suspensions.
