Michigan surgeons transplant left lung in heart transplant team effort
University of Michigan surgeons with three prior heart transplants replaced the left lung of 50 year old engineer Albert Lee Carnick in a six hour operation. Carnick, Bloomfield Hills, was said to have a chance of survival after his emphysema worsening. The transplant began at 1 47 a.m. Monday two minutes after donor Richard A. May’s heart stopped.
