Model program seeks more contracts for training severely retarded
In Eugene Oregon the Specialized Training Program at the University of Oregon seeks additional contracts to fund its model work training 14 severely and profoundly retarded adults in industrial assembly. Manager Jeffery Mailer says current capacity allows about 100 hours of work monthly and aims at near 50 000 yearly revenue with Tektronix Beaverton as a major client. The effort funds wages and shop costs while pushing toward self sufficiency with state and federal support.

Britons Race Guinness Records At Lingfield Three Day Event
Hundreds of Britons attempted world records at Lingfield South of London in a three day Screwball Olympics staged on a racetrack. The feats included smoke rings on one puff, a 26 hour 20 minute accordion run, a 29 hour 12 minute speech, and a 166 mile horse ride. A coffin burial demonstration ran four days underground while other stunts included stilt walking, pickled onion chewing, and a 50 hour bagpipe marathon failed to meet the target.
