Smith insists whites must control Rhodesia army and police
Rhodesian Premier Ian Smith told reporters in Geneva that whites must retain control of the army and police in an interim government leading to majority rule. He rejected any negotiation on this point, while African nationalists faulted the Kissinger six point plan and demanded rapid majority rule. If talks fail, Smith warned sanctions could continue, but he framed the conference as the arena to implement a white led framework.
