President Ford and Jimmy Carter arrive in Williamsburg Virginia for the final Bicentennial election debate. UPI notes up to 100 million TV viewers and 11 days remaining in the campaign.
President Ford declares a sweeping comeback against Jimmy Carter with a near even race, rallying 1600 supporters on the White House lawn before a final debate in Williamsburg Virginia. Carter leads in polls but Ford vows to win November 2 while McCarthy is removed from New York ballots. The candidates attend the Al Smith Dinner, debate at William and Mary, and plan cross country travel ending in Grand Rapids.
City officials and about a dozen citizens heard options for spending 368000 in the 1976 77 Community Development Block Grant. Council will weigh suggestions amid prior priorities eligibility limits and funding questions including the Senior Citizen Center. Helen Reichert said revenue sharing funds may be reallocated if extra grants arise.
China's official news agency said Mao Zedong's widow and three radical leaders who sought power after Mao's death were liquidated. It named Hua Kuo feng as new party chairman and claimed the plot to seize control was crushed. Diplomatic sources cautioned the four may still be alive.

TelePrompTer officials told Lompoc city officials that Channel 2 will be restored for HBO subscribers by November 20 with full service for all 7 200 regular cable customers by December 20. Converters and filters will be installed costing about 4 and 20 dollars per unit respectively, with no extra charges to subscribers. An on call trouble service will run until 10 pm starting November 2.
