Jackson Starts Campaign Swing Across Eight States

Sen. Henry M. Jackson D Washington begins an eight state campaign swing for 1976 Democratic candidates. Weather Bumps West Texas With Snow Then Rain

Severe rainstorms and gusty winds swept West Texas and the Panhandle, with light snow in spots that quickly melted as temperatures rose. Four inches of snow fell east of El Paso, the season's first, but transformed to rain as the day warmed to 40 degrees. El Paso recorded 1.7 inches of rain. Showers extended into southwest Oklahoma and south central Kansas as temperatures ranged from 23 in Houston Maine to 76 at Miami International.

Rockefeller Left Sloan Kettering After Breast Cancer Surgery

New York United Press International reports Betty Rockefeller left Sloan Kettering Memorial Hospital one week after undergoing a modified radical mastectomy to remove her cancerous left breast. Nelson Rockefeller accompanied her and described both spouses as grateful.

Fighting flares in South Boston amid desegregation clashes

In South Boston violence erupted between black and white students after days of calm. A black man was beaten by four whites. a girl was arrested for possessing a knife as metal detectors were used in schools. Police reported pushing and punching with injuries to a teacher's aide.

A Southern Railway work train backed into a school bus carrying 80 children at a Georgia crossing.
