Dean admits role in false testimony in Watergate case

John W. Dean III admitted under cross examination that he encouraged Jeb Stuart Magruder and Egil Krogh to lie as the Watergate cover up unraveled. He described acting as a devil's advocate to test Magruder's story and said he advised Krogh to think of something to lie if pressed about undisclosed burglaries. Dean testified on his seventh day on the stand amid disputes over hush money and blame among White House aides and Nixon officials.

Multi-million program outlined for California community colleges

The California community colleges board approved a 70 million capital outlay and 46 million operations support program for 1975-76. A 10 clause legislative program was adopted to prepare for the Sacramento session, including removing detailed state Finance review, new classroom utilization standards, status for part time staff, and flexible academic calendars. The total near 130 million, with local matches, will go to the Department of Finance for review.

Mexican hostage taker at Nice airport demands wife from Italy

Daniel Rey Caruso, a Mexican national, seized Air France hostess Danielle Barajat at Nice airport insisting his wife Marisella Chavez Valero be brought from Italy and granted safe passage to Mexico. Italian police disputed the claim, saying she traveled on a Mexican passport and had stayed in a Milan hotel prior to leaving.
