Turkish hijackers threaten to blow up Sofia hostages
Four Turkish hijackers extended their deadline for freeing 12 political prisoners, threatening to blow up their planeload of hostages if Turkey does not yield. The plane sat at Sofia Airport as Bulgarian authorities intervened and Ankara refused to negotiate. The group previously wounded a crew member and a passenger during an inflight shooting and kept 66 hostages aboard in worsening conditions amid a snowbound runway and tense standoff.
