Lompoc Water Commission urges hiring consultant for dam study

The Lompoc Water Commission asked the City Council to hire an urgent consultant to assess the financials of the Lompoc Dam and Reservoir project. Commissioner Rodgers pressed for action after an engineering report by Thomas M. Stetson, warning that accepting the report could end the dam project.

Sheriff’s admin building to begin construction in Goleta Valley

County supervisors awarded J W Bailey Construction Co. the $433 733 contract for a new Goleta Valley Sheriff’s Department administration building. It will replace the old headquarters in the Santa Barbara County Courthouse and is planned to be fire and earthquake resistant with bullet resistant glass. Completion is targeted for late next summer on hospital property near U S 101, adjacent to the new detention facility. Funding comes from 1971 72 capital outlay and Public Safety Authority revenues.

Sheriff Proposes Dispatch Switch To Improve Evening Coverage

Sheriff John W. Carpenter described possible changes to dispatching after 5 p.m. with the Santa Maria office taking over, relaying calls to Santa Maria and sending a two-man unit to the Lompoc Valley. He noted patrols save personnel but questioned the switchover impact as Lompoc and Solvang face staffing strain with one officer per 1200 residents over 400 square miles.

The Board of Supervisors unanimously approves start date of January 1 1972 for the County Air Pollution Control Districts rules.
