In Los Angeles the prosecution presented a letter Atkins allegedly sent a cellmate after confessing to the Tate killings. The letter’s admissibility was contested, limiting testimony about others in the crime and allowing only Atkins's own actions to be described. The cellmate testified Atkins said she stabbed Sharon Tate and held Sharon during the stabbing while others acted.

Monterey based Naval Postgraduate School says Commander Lloyd Bucher, 43, will retire effective November 1, 1971 after 20 years of service.
