County water agency backs coordinating council proposal

North County agriculture faces restrictions under state water plan

County officials were told that distributing State Project water north of the Santa Ynez Mountains via the Cachuma Project could trigger the 160-acre limitation of the Reclamation Act. Bureau of Reclamation manager B E Martin warned non-project water via Cachuma facilities would be subject to limits. County Farm Bureau secretary Robert Hunt warned co mingled water to Lompoc and Santa Maria valleys could compound the issue with large leased holdings.

Enterprise undergos toughest test in glide landing

The space shuttle Enterprise completed its first powerless glide from 20 000 feet, landing in the Mojave Desert after 2 minutes 40 seconds. FBI reports 7 percent drop in serious crimes first half 1977

The FBI findings show a 7 percent nationwide decrease in serious crimes in the first six months of 1977 versus the same period in 1976. Violent crimes remained high, with rapes and aggravated assaults up, while property crimes fell notably, and Washington D C saw a slight rise.

Judge limits picket line activities in Lockheed strike

A Superior Court judge ordered the International Association of Machinists to keep pickets off company property and not obstruct entry to Lockheed installations amid a three day old strike. State jobless figure lowest in three years

California September payrolls rise to 9.5 million jobs, up from 9.4 million in August. Unemployment falls to 7.4 percent from 7.5, with 675,200 unemployed, the lowest since October 1974. National rate declines to 6.9 percent.
