Fire damages home from grease stove blaze

Firemen blamed a brief grease fire in a pan on a stove for smoke damage at the home of Mrs. Rose Wright 516 N. First St. The Farm Labor Trailer Office at 1000 W. Ocean Ave. will be closed on Oct. 17 per farm labor assistant Mrs. Jessie De Lira. The office opened for summer to assist youth and adults in finding work placed 233 people including 96 students under 22 in farm jobs and 26 nonfarm workers with 22 under 22. Santa Maria office remains available at 712 E. Chapel or by calling WA 98686.

Collision on Highway 1 Near Burton Mesa Leaves Two Men OK

Dan Fraley, 16, of Lompoc and Ralph Wetzel Jr., 24, of Santa Maria escaped injury after a two-vehicle crash on Highway 1 south of Burton Mesa Boulevard. Both cars suffered moderate damage. CHP reported no serious injuries. Registration for the December school bond rate election closes today. voters may register until midnight at the county clerk’s office on South D Street, open until 5 p.m. A bid call from the state highway division seeks signals and channelization for the Lompoc Wye with bids due October 29 in Sacramento. Mayor Robert MacClure urged adding 3 way stop signs at the intersection interim.

Cabrillo College Night and Local Arts, Contract Award

Cabrillo High School announces College Night for juniors and seniors on October 16 at 7 p.m. at the Little Theatre to discuss college planning and financial aid. Allan Hancock College presents final performances of The Subject Was Roses at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday in the Performing Arts Center. A $22 754 contract for communications supplies was awarded to Western Electric Defense Activities Division by Vandenberg AFB. A meeting on scholarships for Lompoc and Cabrillo high school graduates is set for October 15 at 7 30 p.m. in Lompoc Senior High cafeteria.

Olga Brewington Obituary in Lompoc Community

Olga Theresa Brewington 68 died yesterday at Lom poc District Hospital. Funeral services are at 1 a.m. tomorrow at Mc Peek Family Chapel with Rev. Richard Harris officiating and burial at Lom poc Evergreen Cemetery. Born August 6 1901 in St Paul Minnesota she lived in Lompoc seven years with husband William at 631 Miguelito Road. Survived by brother Thorvald Moe of Skokiell and sisters Mrs. Fred Schlieper of St Paul Mrs. A L Gleason of Great Falls Montana.

County planning OKs more agricultural preserves near Santa Ynez

The County Planning Commission recommended approval of three additional agricultural preserves totaling 1433 acres in the Santa Ynez Valley and a fourth 491 acre preserve west of Los Alamos. Theodore Chamberlin Jr spoke of keeping land in preserves to stay in cattle business. A fifth preserve for Skou was approved. The six preserves now await Board of Supervisors action with a decision anticipated November 10 on lifting the moratorium, pending a special county committee report.
