Glidden antique auto tour rolls through Lompoc Valley

Lompoc residents cheered the 24th annual Glidden antique automobile tour as it arrived in Ryan Park for a box lunch and a local welcome by Councilman Art Scott in Mayor MacClure’s absence. Officials from the Antique Automobile Club of America and Chamber of Commerce greeted the touring party before the group left for Santa Barbara after visits in Santa Maria Morro Bay and other Central Coast stops.

Seven Arrested in Surf to Lompoc Drug and Evading Arrest Sweep

Sheriff's deputies and Lompoc Police net seven suspects, five men and two 16 year old girls, on charges including possession of dangerous drugs and evading arrest. James Milton Withrow and Donald Zook faced possession charges, August Iacono interfered with arrest, Joseph Fanello and Russell Alexander faced possession and evading arrest, with bail amounts listed. Juveniles were released to parents after the Surf Depot roundup near Surf and M Street.

Authorities said a small quantity of pills believed dangerous was confiscated. The pills were to be analyzed by the county to determine their contents.

Lompocan Killed in John Manville Mine Accident

Roberto S. Hernandez, 44, of 1125 W Jasmine Ave, died at Johns Manville Products Co. in an 11:50 p.m. tunnel accident while trying to dislodge a rock from a Glory Hole. He fell 6 to 8 feet and was buried by diatomaceous earth. death uncertain if fall or suffocation. Funeral plans pending. Hernandez survived by three daughters and a son. Authorities plan a full investigation with State Industrial Safety Board staff arriving Monday.
