Fans say goodbye as Senators flee to Texas

Washington mourned as the 71 year old Washington Senators played their last game in the capital, a 9-0 forfeit to the New York Yankees after fans stormed the field. Frank Howard homered in his final appearance, receiving a standing ovation as banners denounced owner Bob Short and fans bade farewell with confetti and cheers.

Cabrillo Tops Santa Barbara in CC. Tise Sets Course Record

Cabrillo's two top runners Victor Tise and Gary Manus led the team as they finished 1st and 2nd, but Santa Barbara won 28 29 in a tight Channel League cross country meet. Tise set a course record at 11 58.3 and Manus set a Cabrillo sophomore record at 12 01.

Hillmen Open Polo Tournament at Buena High

The Cabrillo Water Polo Team travels to Ventura for the Sixth Annual Buena High School Tourney. They open against La Canada with Randy Nogle returning from injury to boost Cabrillo’s offense. If they win, they face Beverly Hills. the loser heads to Buena High for a 12 00 game.

Attendance reached a record 29,203,589 with the National League drawing 56 percent of fans and the American League 44 percent. NL totals rose to 17,333,085 up 670,887 from 1970, while AL slipped to 11,870,504 from 12,085,135. All NL teams except San Diego exceeded 1 million home fans. only four AL clubs did.
