Christmas decoration contests planned in Lompoc Valley

The Lompoc Valley Chamber of Commerce will sponsor home and business Christmas decoration contests with nine home districts including Vandenberg Village Mission Hills and FCI. Non electrical displays only. judges visit Dec 12–17. Participants must call 736 4567 by Dec 10 with name address and display type. Winners announced Dec 21.

Goleta Valley incorporation plans hinge on agriculture preserve

The Local Agency Formation Commission heard Goleta Valley Chamber of Commerce proposals for half the valley to remain agricultural in perpetuity. Herman Farnum urged that agricultural preserves form a sphere of influence to curb urban sprawl as hearings on Goleta Isla Vista and Hope Ranch incorporation set for December 27.

Miramar Hotel project hears continued environmental review

The Miramar Hotel property near the Southern Pacific line in Montecito faces extended environmental input for clearance. Public hearing before Coordinator Albert Reynolds was continued to Dec 13 as architect Kenneth Kruger outlined a tennis club with eight courts and a clubhouse, while former Supervisor George Clyde urged more data on noise and railroad crossing safety. The Montecito Protective and Improvement Assn. sought more time and several county offices asked for additional study.

More diesel fuel available for farming in 60 day period

Santa Barbara County Agricultural Commissioner Graydon Hall announced additional diesel fuel will be available for farming for the next 60 days with a warning to limit purchases to actual needs. The U S Office of Petroleum Allocation assigns a high priority to farm production during the period but only for the 60 days starting Nov 20.
