USC Coach McKay backs second Pac-8 finishers in bowls
USC coach John McKay said the No 2 team in the Pac 8 should be allowed to bowl. After beating UCLA 34-9 to clinch a Rose Bowl trip USC led the conference at 6-0-1 with Stanford second at 5-1-1. He argued bowls raise money for charity and noted no Rose Bowl contract blocks a second-place team from another bowl. He also discussed a potential return of one platoon football but doubted it would save money.
