Oil stocks slump as Dow hits low not seen since 1971

The market fell with the Dow at its lowest since November 26 1971 as prices for oil shares dropped. Getty, Superior, Atlantic Richfield and Ohio Standard all declined amid broad selling. Getty III kidnapping ransom bid fails to move Getty clan

The father of J Paul Getty III offered 1 million dollars for the teen's return but billionaire grandfather J Paul Getty refused to pay. Mrs Gail Harris, mother of the 17 year old, criticized Getty and said the offer came with custody conditions. She cited the ransom demand of 3.4 million dollars and questioned the kidnapping claim while noting doubts about the disappearance. The case dates to last July 9 with the youth missing and later letters claiming abduction.

Release of POW requested for Emmett Kay in Indochina

Skylab 3 astronauts ready for U.S. photo sweep

The Skylab 3 crew Gerald Carr Edward Gibson and William Pogue completed tests and prepared for a daylight photo sweep across the United States delayed by weather. They will photograph the comet Kohoutek twice daily during their 84 day mission while collecting data on snow fields in Colorado and Sabine Forest.

California oil firms sued over alleged $50 million underpayment

The Crude Oil Pricing Subcommittee filed suit in Superior Court naming Mobil Texaco and Exxon for refusing to produce subpoenaed records in an inquiry into whether California is shortchanging $50 million a year in oil revenue. Union and Standard Oil of California were later cited for contempt. hearing set for Dec. 10.
