Nixon proposes emergency energy cuts to curb crisis

President Nixon outlined short term energy measures to reduce gasoline and heating oil use, seeking to avoid wartime rationing. Tape handover seals Watergate records to Sirica

UPI reports President Nixon tapes on Watergate turned over to Chief Judge John J. Sirica in a gray tool box. He said the tapes would be guarded by marshals and reviewed later to determine any grand jury relevance. An 18 minute gap in the Nixon Haldeman conversation prompted explanations of an inadvertent erasure.

Fault near Diablo Canyon not as serious, USGS reports

Memorial services set for enviro attorney Bruce Sharpe

Memorial services for environmental attorney Bruce Sharpe, 42, who died last week by probable self asphyxiation, will be held tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. in First Presbyterian Church, 1600 Berkeley Dr. in Lompoc. Sharpe, a UCLA Law graduate and former criminal defense attorney, had become known for his environmental work with PLUS and the Scenic Shoreline Preservation Conference during AEC hearings on Diablo Canyon and San Onofre. He is survived by his wife Dr Jean Michels Sharpe, son Kip, daughter Frances, his mother Ann Sharpe, and brother Pete. Memorials may be sent to the Lompoc Valley YMCA.

Lompoc Parade Rescheduled for December 1 With Santa

The Children's Christmas Parade in Lompoc has been moved to Saturday December 1 at 10 a.m. due to dark skies and rain threats. About 1200 children are expected to attend the event themed A Christmas Carol with the parade route running from the northern business district down H Street to Ocean Avenue then I Street and Chestnut Avenue. Candy favors will be given in the Bank of America north parking lot and trophies will be awarded in 12 categories including floats music units marching groups and costumes.

California orders 50 mph speed limit for state cars

Lt Gov Ed Reinecke acting as governor while Reagan is away issued a 50 mph limit for 16 000 state-owned cars and called for a 10 percent cut in gasoline use by all state departments. He tied the move to energy shortages and Nixon's nationwide 50 mph proposal, criticizing holiday lighting extravagance but easing concern about Santa Claus.
