UPI reports Judge John J. Sirica directed Rose Mary Woods to produce her typewriter and a lamp to safeguard evidence in the Watergate tape case. Woods testified she accidentally stopped the tape while transcribing on Oct. 1, denying an 18 minute gap was intentional.

Oil sump threat prompts county action at Cat Canyon field

The House Appropriations Committee trimmed about 2.8 billion from military spending but plans a later 2.5 billion supplemental for a pay raise, effectively canceling most cuts.
