Body found in apartment blanks airman death in Lompoc

The body of James Michael Gelata 20 was found in his home at 733 North F Street Apt 6 by neighbor Lois Ann Harshman. Deputies labeled the death a possible self-inflicted act and noted no immediate cause. Gelata attached to Vandenberg hospital department. Local officials report the incident occurred after a unit call about his absence from work.

Diorama Winners Named in Lompoc Library Contest

Thirty eight box dioramas won prizes in the 1974 Book Week Diorama Round-up by Lompoc Public Library Children’s Department. 63 entries were judged by a panel including Vaughn Proctor and Tom Freeman. First place went to Cristin Trenner, Laura Saladino, and Pamela Young for Cranberry Thanksgiving Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and The Parent Trap respectively.

Lompoc Valley Chamber Hosts Christmas Decoration Contests

The Lompoc Valley Chamber of Commerce will sponsor home and business Christmas decoration contests with nine home districts including Mission Hills Vandenberg Village FCI and Vandenberg AFB. Winners receive trophies and a sweepstakes judge will pick one overall winner.

Lompoc Planning Commission approved two lot split requests including a variance for 610 614 North H St with a 40 year joint parking agreement. A 14 lot subdivision near Lompoc Library was approved and final action on a 40 acre parcel split east of H Street was deferred.

Lompoc Christmas Parade Promises Royal Santa Ride

The 1974 Children's Christmas Parade in Lompoc Saturday features Santa atop the Fire Department Big Rig with over 1,000 young riders. Bands from Lompoc and Cabrillo High will perform. trophies in 11 categories will be awarded at the Chamber of Commerce office after the parade.

County panel restores 18 deputy sheriff positions

Sheriff John W. Carpenter won a 3-2 vote to restore 18 deputy sheriff posts without county funding. The board may fund eight positions with CETA money, as Administrative Officer Raymond D. Johnson preferred. Contingency funds and overtime costs shaped the debate and the shrinking contingency balance.

Board rebuffs Dodson legal fee request over Mural Room use

Stolen Amplifier and Microphone At Fillmore School

An amplifier and a microphone were reported stolen from Fillmore School at 1211 E Pine Ave last weekend. Loss estimated at 186 dollars plus an undetermined amount of cash missing from the teachers lounge. Police search for a suspect with a severe cut from a window break. blood trail found through ransacked areas.
