Caldwell loses lead but earns PGA tour card finish

Caldwell ties for seventh in the PGA qualifying tournament to secure a 2006 tour card despite dropping to a 77 final round. Allison wins Times 500 at Ontario in record pace

Bobby Allison driving the Coke Machine American Motors Matador led 470 of 500 laps to win the Times 500 at Ontario Motor Speedway with a record 134.963 mph average. He beat David Pearson by 48 seconds as Cale Yarborough Mines third, Foyt fourth, Baker fifth. Allison credited Penske guidance and radio advice for pacing to protect the car after a prior crash.
