Youth alcohol arrests rise in Lompoc park

Over two weekends police at Ryan Park took 10 underage suspects on alcohol charges. Police Chief James Smith says officers enforce the law and will target repeat violators, while Sheriff’s Sgt. Bill Kelley notes deputies issue warnings when possible but arrest drunks or repeat violators to curb public drinking near the park. He stresses no department policy to harass youths.

Wholesale prices fall easing inflation fears

Wholesale prices dropped 0.2 percent in November signaling potential relief from high inflation. The Labor Department noted a 0.9 percent fall in farm products and 0.1 percent dip in processed foods. Commerce reports a 0.8 percent rise in leading indicators suggesting a possible economic upturn. Thanksgiving closures affected government offices and many Lompoc stores. Nixon to single out unions over inflation

President Nixon plans to target labor unions he blames for excessive wage increases fueling inflation. White House aides say he will be tougher and may fault both business and labor while stressing wage boosts as the main inflation driver. Rogers argues raid will not affect Paris talks

Secretary of State William P. Rogers told the House Foreign Affairs Committee that last weekend's U S aerial and commando raid in North Vietnam would have no impact on the Paris peace talks. He said no progress has been made and any future progress depends on North Vietnam's interest in a settlement. Laird pressed for prisoner releases and potential further raids, while McGovern floated halting funds for incursions. The Russians condemned the Son Tay raid as gangster like intrusions.

Higher cost and yield for Lompoc dam alternative plan

The Bureau of Reclamation's new Lompoc Project proposal would raise reimbursable costs by about 24.9 million and lift the Greater Lompoc Area yield from 9 000 to 12 600 acre feet per year with initial delivery near 7 700 acre feet. Unit water cost climbs from 110 to 190 dollars per acre foot. local recreation repayment could reach about 1 014 000 annually.
