Communist troops launched two new offensives in Cambodia and attacked government forces within nine miles of Phnom Penh. Rice prices in Phnom Penh jumped about ten percent as the fighting threatened western Battambang Province.

Nixon and Ky Breakfast Meeting at White House

South Vietnam's vice president Nguyen Cao Ky met for about ninety minutes with President Nixon in a White House dining room. Ky was joined by Bui Diem and U.S. officials including Kissinger and Irwin II as reporters were not available for questions before a later National Press Club appearance.

Laird declines to reveal raid plans

Defense Secretary Melvin Laird refused to say whether more commando raids are planned to rescue Vietnam prisoners. He noted other camps exist in hard to land areas and reported the Hanoi raid found no prisoners. Senate leaders praised the operation but urged caution and questioned intelligence reliability.

Bureau suggests new Lompoc Dam plan without flood control

Nixon inflation setback as October prices rise

UPI reports October living costs jumped six tenths of a percent led by cars clothing gasoline and services, the largest increase since April. Prices were 5.9 percent higher than a year earlier while weekly earnings dropped, reducing real spendable income for workers with dependents.

Deadly Winter Storm Grips Nation Across Regions
