Delta rocket lifts trio of satellites from Vandenberg

NASA launched a Delta rocket from Vandenberg Air Force Base carrying three satellites. The main payload was an operational weather satellite STOS G with two piggybacks, including the first Spanish satellite and a radio amateur satellite. Liftoff occurred at 9 11 a m as forecasts improved.

Crash Kills Buellton Woman in Highway 101 Crash

A New Mexico man faces felony drunk driving and vehicle manslaughter charges after a crash near Buellton that killed 23 year old Catherine Anne Field of Buellton. David J. Boyd, 31, Placitas, NM, is jailed on 5,000 dollars bail pending a Solvang Justice Court hearing after treatment at Santa Ynez Hospital. The CHP said Boyd's southbound car crossed the center divider on Highway 101 three miles south of Buellton and overturned.
