Butz Rejects Extra Grain Pledge For World Hunger

Secretary Earl L. Butz told reporters in Rome that the United States could not pledge an additional one million tons of grain despite a telegram from Senators Humphrey McGovern and Clark urging the pledge. He noted the U S has supplied 84 percent of world food aid from 1965 to 1972 and said the country is prioritizing grain for humans over livestock while preparing more wheat and rice for this year. The conference aims to wrap up talks with a mechanism to feed hungry nations by Saturday.

Lawyer to seek Nixon approval of examination

Richard M. Nixon's lawyer said he will ask the former president this weekend to consent to an examination by court appointed doctors to decide if he is well enough to testify in the Watergate cover up trial. Miller said he hoped to meet Nixon at his San Clemente home and report to Judge Sirica by Tuesday with Nixon's response. Nixon had just left a Long Beach hospital after surgery for phlebitis.

Lompoc High Cheerleaders Decorate Cabrillo Rival Fronts

Lompoc High School cheerleaders papered homes last night ahead of the football game with cross town rival Cabrillo. Cabrillo principal Bob Bickford found his office festooned with blue and white streamers and a sign reading Cream Cabrillo. Players from both schools woke to yards decorated in team colors.
