A 19 year old airman Kevan Lyman is listed in satisfactory condition at Goleta Valley Hospital after a 60 foot cliff fall while hiking near Lake Cachuma. He suffered a concussion and cuts and scrapes. Sheriff personnel conducted the rescue as his three friends escaped serious injury.
The Supreme Court let stand a lower ruling allowing the U S Jaycees to continue excluding women from membership though the group holds tax exempt status and receives federal funds. The court declined to hear appeals challenging men only rules of Jaycee chapters nationwide. Chapters in Rochester New York and Philadelphia were expelled after voting to admit women.
UPI reports a Ralph Nader group obtained 41 IRS files showing dossiers on about 11 000 potential Nixon White House enemies. The group claims 3 000 groups and 8 000 organizations were targeted for top secret investigations begun in 1969, listing groups such as the National Council of Churches and the John Birch Society.
Lompoc City Council meets at 7:30 p.m. to decide on a proposed 46 percent residential rate hike to 6.60 dollars a month and consider TelePrompTer Corp. rate requests for full 6.95 dollars. A report from the City Beautification Commission on West Hickory Avenue street trees precedes the discussion.

Three people were arrested in two Lompoc locations leading to a seizure of amphetamines with a street value around 4 000 to 5 000 dollars. Delbert Turner 28 from Los Angeles Janis Cruz 23 from Lompoc and Robert Young 23 faced drug charges. Police described Turner as a street dealer and said the investigation continues.
